UNION
Jessica, her husband and their kids decided to adopt a litter of kittens they named Charlie, Rudy, Banana and Custer. These kittens still had their mom, dad and grandma with them, but they were all infested with fleas. As soon as Jessica and her family noticed, they sprung to action to remove the fleas. The kittens had not yet been neutered , but with the help of a low-income clinic and funds raised by Jessica’s family, they were able to provide the treatment Charlie and his brothers needed.
FIRST PROBLEMS
At the vet, they discovered that Charlie’s bladder had been blocked. This was a life threatening and expensive medical emergency. Thankfully, the team at East Village Animal Hospital came to his rescue, and contacted PAWS for financial assistance. Another clinic stepped in to help Charlie slowly get better in the days that followed.
OTHER BROTHER

It was supposed to be just like any other weekend when Rudy started throwing up and having diarrhea. Jessica suspected a UTI and took him to the vet for medication. The vet told Jessica that Rudy needed to be taken to the ER. Many of the clinics around them had been closed, but a vet was able to provide subcutaneous fluids, just enough to last Rudy the weekend and the next few days. Jessica was told that Rudy would need an ultrasound and x-ray to check for internal problems, and even though she was certain that he hadn’t swallowed anything, she followed the advice. Soon after, she received a call confirming Rudy had swallowed a soother and would need emergency surgery. Without hesitation, Jessica took on Rudy’s $2,500 vet bills and reached out to PAWS. PAWS was able to cover a portion of the payment.
AFTER THE STORM
Even though Jessica and her family still have some bills to pay, they are glad that the worst is now behind them. Charlie is on a special diet as he recovers from his blockages. Rudy is also getting better. Charlie and his brothers are a valuable part of Jessica’s family, especially for her children with special needs.
‘We thank PAWS and our community for helping save Charlie and Rudy’s lives. Please consider donating whatever you can.’
