One fateful day, Rola and her friend were out visiting a neighbour in Kipps Lane. The neighbour had a litter of puppies just a few months old. When Rola got there, eight of the puppies had been sold, leaving only two behind, including the runt of the litter. This adorable pup was later named Enzo. The two puppies were full of energy. They were running, play-fighting, and so much in sync that you could mistake them for one dog. But there was a problem. The puppies’ environment was not ideal. There was a bigger dog that lived with them, who was kept on a leash. Enzo and his brother had matted fur and they looked malnourished. Their diet consisted of dry kibble, which was not appropriate for their age.
Rola was moved by the circumstances and made an instant decision to take Enzo into her care. Rola soon learned that Enzo’s brother was already paid for and would soon be leaving, and she just couldn’t bear to leave Enzo behind, especially when the owners were having trouble selling him.
Once Enzo came home with her, Rola began his journey to recovery. On their first walk, he reacted to everything – new faces, cars, even other dogs. With the help of PAWS and Rola’s dedication to Enzo’s care, we were able to subsidize health checks and all necessary vaccines. Now Enzo is on track to becoming healthier and has also started behavioural training.
“He has brought so much joy and love into my life. I seriously think he rescued me, not the other way around,” Rola says.
